Garage Door Opener Functionality

Garage door openers are small, box-like devices. The design of most is pretty straight-forward and simple. They generally contain a single button—or, perhaps, on some multi-functional models, two buttons. When depressed, the buttons function as remote controls which, as you’d probably expect, open a garage door. Each garage door opener is programmed to work with a specific garage door. The unique programming of each remote control helps avoid the potentially embarrassing mistakes of neighbors opening other neighbor’s garage doors. It also helps deter garage door opening criminals.

Most people hook their garage door remotes to the visors in the windshields of their cars. Because of that, most garage door openers come equipped with a simple wire clamp at the back of the remote to make visor connection easy.

The models I’m most familiar with come in black, gray, or a cream colors. Typically, I would recommend consumers choose a garage door remote that most closely matches their car’s interior, but color choice is based purely on the aesthetic preference of the purchaser. Whether it comes in black, gray, cream, or any other color, the function is the same—garage door remotes open garage doors.
